The reading on the wood will be 0 when the wood is sufficiently dry, as dry wood is an insulator, preventing current conduction between the pins. This non-conductive state is the reason for the 0 reading.

When the wood is too dry, like an insulator, it will consistently register 0 on the damp meter. This is because the current cannot flow between the pins in such a dry, insulating material.
